"An early-morning walk [or skate!] is a blessing for the whole day." SKATEYOGI weekend forecast 3/29/14
The slightly re-contextualized subject line quote belongs to Henry David Thoreau. I've often thought that it would be rad to chill with him and as cool as his cabin must've been I love to picture him in present day. Pretty sure Henry would be a skateboarder, "nah man think i'm gonna keep it low key maybe grab a bodega beer and chill in the park for a few". He was all about taking the slow route, preferring to walk a long distance rather than work a day to pay for the train, or something like that.
Weather last week and some more spring break freedom had me skipping the train and just skating aimlessly around HDT style noticing how smooth the sidewalks on Flatbush are and you cant get kicked out of spots if you just keep moving push push push. Met up with Aedn, who's been helping me with the kids classes, grabbed a few chill clips and met a skateboarding dog which was pretty ridiculous.
Nice chill saturday family day last weekend and now Adult classes are back starting today. Kids classes are on as always for sundays: Groms at 11am-noon and Shredders from 12:30-1:30pm (DISCLAIMER: Shredders class welcomes any kid that has taken a skateyogi class and wants to get right to ramp skating!). Be on the lookout for some additional outdoor classes being added soon now that the weather is getting perfect for street skating.
Girls can shred!!
Rad time at Homage this past Wednesday! Took the little one to shred with all the other girls. I heard from Courtney of GRO that they are planning to now offer two monthly sessions at Homage, one for beginners and another for advanced so there'll be something for everyone. Stay tuned!
Clip of the week...
It's no secret I am a fan of Quartersnacks for coverage of NYC skateboarding. Between them for commentary and NYSkateboarding for event coverage and general news you've got a good view on what's going on. Check this re-edit QS just recently posted of all of Brandon Westgate's NYC footage from the past few years, dude is sooooo good!
