You CAN do it!
You ever see a skateboarder cruising down the sidewalk, flowing so smoothly it looks like the board is a part of their body? It looks so easy. But then when you step on a board for the first time it feels so awkward even just keeping your balance.
Like many other practices, skateboarding takes a lot of work. Behind the effortless push of an experienced skater is countless hours of hard work and dedication. Landing a trick is the easy part. The process of learning the mechanics and falling over and over again is what really makes us skateboarders.
Anytime a student says “I can’t do this,” I ask them to add the word “yet” to the end of the statement. This helps reframe the challenge to help them to reach for the goal. Like my yoga teacher Jyll says, “We have to get uncomfortable to get comfortable.”
You can apply this same mindset whether practicing on your board, your yoga mat or anything else your striving to achieve in life.
