We are closed starting Sat 12/21 through Wed 1/1, so this is the last weekend to shop at SKATEYOGI before Christmas. Gift wrapping available.  This Wednesday after a somber skate therapy session at Maspeth Skatepark with fellow skate dads, Lio suggested rolling down the street to the nearby Restaurant Depot spot. The main attraction is a very long double sided curb that presents line opportunities as well as a ride on option. The vibe was almost beach-like on an unusually warm sunny November day, except that the body of water was Newtown Creek passing underneath K bridge in an industrial zone.
The added attraction at this spot is the very impressive fingerboard DIY that wraps around two sides of a large concrete block. The craftwork is admirable with details like miniature pool coping, rails and use of different materials and textures. This pin leads you to the entrance to the waterfront. I parked my car in the adjacent depot lot. Then follow the waterfront towards the K bridge and you’ll find the curbs first and the fingerboard DIY beyond that. I wouldn’t say this spot is exactly kid friendly (maybe some beer bottles littered about from the night before) but if you’re the adventurous type this should be fine for a mid-day visit. - Kevin

 SKATEYOGI Mixtape: Summer Camp 2024
During our last team meeting the idea came up that it would be good to show our students skate videos of other kids their age. This way it would be more relatable than an adult pro skater sliding down handrails. Then, I realized that we actually make a bunch of fun skate edits of our students on Instagram that would be inspiring and give them ideas for new moves. Personally speaking, I wouldn't want my son scrolling around on Instagram, so I made a compilation of our edits from 2024 Summer Camp and put them on a single 10-minute YouTube video, a SKATEYOGI Mixtape! Check out the video, get stoked, and think up some new moves or even see a clip of yourself or a friend in there. Let us know what you think! If our students are into it we can make some more mixtapes. - Kevin

Every spring and fall, SKATEYOGI partners with the Chill Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that local students, particularly those who may not have access to high-quality enrichment programs, can experience the joy of skateboarding. This partnership not only opens doors for these young skaters but also fosters a vibrant community where creativity and resilience thrive. One of the highlights of these sessions has been whenever our wonderful Chill coordinator Guershon brings along his charming feline companion, Spooky. Her playful spirit instantly transforms our space into a warm, welcoming haven, filled with laughter and joy. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to give back.
