September is here and we are stoked to welcome back our returning students and meet new ones! Summer is rad but during weekly classes we get to have so many fun sessions with different groups and each one is unique.
Even though classes have started, there is still room in lots of classes and we do a prorated ongoing registration as long as space is available. New to SKATEYOGI and want to try out a class? Submit a request form here and we can help set it up. See you at the sesh! Kevin Hope you all had a nice summer! Here at SKATEYOGI, we are ready for the fall season where we can enjoy the cool breeze as the day gets shorter. Looking forward to lots of skate fun this fall!
We hope you can join us! Register for the fall classes here. We are so grateful to those who came to attend SKATEYOGI programs during the summer. Thank you for your love and support!! This year we took more trips than ever by subway (and ferry!) and the destinations got even more adventurous including Rockaway, Riverside, Owls Head, LES, Astoria, Tribeca... So much fun!
If you are just coming back to NYC, welcome back! We are closed for the Labor Day weekend. We'll be back on Tuesday 9/5! September is just around the corner! We are doing a mini open house this Sunday 8/27 from 2:15-3:45pm at SKATEYOGI PLG! Come take a look at our space and talk to our staff if you have any questions!
Adults! New September series classes are starting on Wed 9/6! Kids! Fall classes are starting in 2 weeks! You can still register for the last week of summer camp and 2-day camp before school starts! Skateboarding offers learning challenges for skaters of all ages and levels. While our youngest Skate Tots are discovering new ways to balance and position their bodies with the help of a skateboard, a lot of the learning is mental for our adult students.
Overcoming our fears and loosening up to go with the flow, little by little we create muscle memory and new neural pathways that can enrich our lives beyond the fun we have on the board. This exercise of bravery and curiosity can help you keep your perspective fresh! Having skated for 30+ years, I surprise myself everyday learning new tricks! What's your next trick? Kevin As the new school season approaches, I’m reminded about how natural curiosity draws people to skateboarding. Whether it’s a new trick, a new obstacle or some other kind of variation, the possibilities are endless. This is definitely true for beginners as they get comfortable with the basics. It doesn’t take long before skaters start to think up new ideas with the techniques they’ve learned. I’ve gotten some of my best trick ideas from the imaginations and fresh perspective of our new students!
What’s your next trick? Kevin I got to spend the day with our Little Kids camp this week at PLG and it was a great reminder of how fun a day of skate adventures with a rad crew can be. The weather was beautiful so we packed our cart and headed to the Prospect Park's Audubon Center. There we skated through the tunnel, navigated a cone course and launched off a ramp into the grass. After a picnic lunch I took the group on a little nature walk around the center where we climbed a tree, explored the pond's edge and checked out a waterfall. We had a loose plan for the day, but as often happens when you're out skating some of the most fun parts were unplanned.
Just as it feels like summer camp has really set in, we now have just a few weeks left. We still have room in select weeks if you're interested in some end of summer skate fun. The slightly cooler temps are also helping us realize that the upcoming school year is right around the corner. We are looking forward to welcoming back all of our students to weekly Fall series classes starting back up for skaters as young as 2! See you at the next sesh! Kevin With the high summer temps looking to get even warmer, it’s now that other time of year we are blessed to have two air conditioned skate spaces to keep the sessions going! Summer campers have been enjoying full days of skating both outdoors and indoors with all the variety those different environments offer.
For our shorter class programs, the indoor skate spaces provide both relief from the elements and a calm private space to learn something new! There are a few August class series for kids and adults before we’re back to school with the fall program in September. There’s also still some room in our summer camp program if your kid is looking for a fun way to round out the summer. See you at the sesh! Kevin Just a short 12-minute walk north from SKATEYOGI Williamsburg lies this fun little DIY spot hidden in plain sight within the confines of the American Playground in Greenpoint.
The main feature is a wide quarterpipe, short with a nice quick transition. A slappy curb and flat bar round out the obstacle selections. It is also worth mentioning the smooth flatground, plenty of shade from trees overhead and the standard playground amenities including sprinklers and a bathroom. Skateparks are great but sometimes all you need is a little micro spot like this in the neighborhood to push around and have fun. - Kevin |
