some suggested post on my facebook feed... they got me dialed!! Get there while you can!! Skate Night tonight! ya know, part of the reason this weekly check-in is called the forecast is cause I like to talk about the weather and how it relates to skating prospects for the next few days but after lurking through too many snow related posts and whatnot I'm cutting to the chase: It's cold outside, there's snow outside. But there is hope! A good chunk of the skate industry is in town for the Agenda trade show which is wrapping up today and I just saw half a dozen instagram posts announcing tonight's Skate Night courtesy of KCDC and a bunch of other folks. I've been to enough of these promises of a skate oasis amidst wintery extremes to not get my hopes up. Considering those are usually in the pretty densely skater populated area of Brooklyn's northern regions and tonight's will be held in the locus of nyc skateboarding in the LES, the chances of being able to actually drop in are pretty slim... but whatever, since everybody's gonna have the itch to skate coupled along with the buzz of bumping shoulders with the who's who of the industry it might just be worth getting caught up in this spectacle. Starts at 8pm and they're saying limited capacity so dont sleep on this if you're trying to come through. Drop in and Drop-in! The drop-in SKATEYOGI classes at Skate Brooklyn are definitely living up to their name! One adult beginner told me a little while back that dropping in was her New Years resolution. She is so close to getting it and it's still just January! In the kids class we're mixing it up with some buttboard drop-ins to get comfortable on the ramp and a few even took it to the vert wall. So stoked on the energy of these kids. Come and shred with us! As always, adult beginners on Saturday at 11am and kids on Sunday at 11am. See you there! Clip of the Week! If you're just trying to stay inside and snuggle up tonight to avoid the mob scene that's cool cause there's a new internet meme in the works that's right up our alley. No disrespect to all those skateboarding dog videos, there's a bunch and they're funny, but I was raised a cat person. Combine skateboarding with the internet gold standard of cats and this one has some 7 figure view potentials. This cat can shred! It does a hippy jump variant where it jumps onto an obstacle with the board going underneath (including a dog). I sometimes teach this to kids before they learn proper hippy jumps (where you jump completely over something and the board goes underneath). I'm thinking I will start to call this trick the kitty jump!
