SKATEYOGI weekend report

Time is running out! Winter is creeping but looks like we'll have a semi-decent saturday with a forecast of sunny and 46 degrees, hoodie, beanie, you'll be ok, really, I was out last week on one of those 36 degree days and was still fine once I thawed out... it's once the snow comes in and then the sand and black ice that things get a bit too gnarly and you'll only catch me hibernating at an indoor ramp spot somewhere.

Speaking of ramp spots, last friday Skate Brooklyn had an all-girls skate jam / fundraiser for Girl Riders Organization (GRO) that was pretty rad. Even had one of our skateyogis, Allison get on the ramp for her first time and she was ripping! 

Next jam there is Dec 14 from 5-7pm so pencil that in! For saturday's class we ventured out of the skatepark area at Brower to do some raw street skating: hopping curbs, found a sick little brink bank to jam on and practiced ollies in the grass; chill skateyogi session. If you're on insta check #skateyogis for the pics and vids and hashtag it yourself if you're out ripping or whatever.

GRO is hosting a movie screening of Underexposed: a women's skateboarding documentary. I'll definitely be checking this out. It's on Nov 30 at 7pm somewhere in Brooklyn, rsvp to [email protected] and the details are here. 

Thanks to SKATEYOGI Stephanie for sharing this dope podcast that totally nerds out about street skating and how skaters repurpose the urban environment. It focuses on Love Park in Philly and it's worth the listen just to hear the 92 year old architect get stoked on riding a skateboard in the park he designed in total defiance of the city ordinance banning the activity.
