Good Morning! You may have noticed that I sometimes make tea before class to offer to adult students or parents. This SKATEYOGI tradition started a few months ago inspired by my Tai Chi teacher who also serves tea to this students. The idea behind this is that serving tea from the same pot brings everyone together as equals, sharing the common experience. It reminded me of a blog post I wrote two years ago comparing skate sessions to tea ceremonies. The idea of ichi-go ichi-e; literally "one time, one meeting" that even the same people skating the same place, each occurrence is unique and special. This is the same principle that encourages us to greet each other with high fives and even if the kids aren't sharing a pot of tea I'm sure the afterschool and day camp crews can relate as we pass around cups of Pirate's Booty during snack time :) Next round of 6-week series starts Nov 5th! Registration is now open and spots are starting to fill up but there is still room! These classes are limited to 6 students each and it is always rad to see them get to know each other and progress together over the course of the 6 weeks. We have the Groms Basics which is perfect for kids just starting out or with only a little experience. For the kids that are starting to get comfortable on their boards, we have two Groms Plus level series. The Groms Plus Ramp class will focus on techniques for shredding the ramps independently. The Groms Plus Tricks class focus on techniques for board control through moves like the ollie and other beginner level tricks. Let me know if you have any questions on which series would be best. Namaskate! Kevin
