Sure, skateparks are great, but "street skating" is all about making use of the environment around you. It doesn't take much to have fun on your skateboard. Take a simple curb for instance. There are countless tricks you can do and some will translate directly to other obstacles such as ledges or the coping of a ramp. Here's good basic trick to start with:
Try a Nose Stall This trick is good for anyone that is comfortable pushing and can do some kickturns. Eventually you can turn the nose stall into a noseslide by approaching at an angle or try different combinations such as reverts and shuvits. Step 1 Approach the curb straight on (perpendicular) and adjust your feet so your back foot is on the tail and your front foot is all the way up on the nose (this is important!). Step 2 Just as you get to the curb, shift your weight back to raise your nose up onto the curb. Step 3 Once your wheels make contact with the edge of the curb shift your weight forward onto the nose to balance and stop. This is the "stall" part of the trick. Step 4 To get off the curb, shift your weight back to the tail and use the momentum to ride backwards away from the curb. Step 5 Ride away with a smile! Try it next time! Kevin
