Happy Year of the (Skate) Rat!

What is a Skate Rat?

Chinese Lunar New Year is tomorrow and 2020 is Year of the Rat on the zodiac cycle. Because I can't help but make connections with skateboarding, this made me think instantly of the term "skate rat". Picture someone so dedicated to skating all day that this passion almost consumes them. Clothing ripped and tattered, eating simple, inexpensive food, these skaters put skating over almost everything else. But the pursuit of this eternal moment of bliss is akin to a monk in a cave.

Every skater has had their rat phase. Whether it's idle summer days, endless skate sessions with college friends, or apartments packed with skater roommates, these social situations create the ideal conditions for intense singular focus. Even a skater past their rat phase can find themselves back in the rhythm on a skate trip or even a heavy all day session.

Our classes are a great introduction to learning skate techniques. The day camps and summer camps provide a deeper experience through time and connection. In designing these programs we have recreated ideal versions of our own experiences. Rats for life!
