Good Morning! Pretty mellow temps and some dry weather the last few days seems everywhere you go there's the familiar sound of urethane rolling across the surfaces, head nods and bumping into familiar faces all over the city. Just wrapped up 2 more weeks of summer skate camp at Friends Seminary in the city up on the roof top skate training facility dragging ramps around to create a new space each day and the true joy is catching some of the stoke from these little rippers. Seeing skateboarding through their perspective is a great way to keep it fresh. One day a little moisture on the roof prompted a lesson in powerslides where you slip on the wheels sideways creating a controlled skid. One student who was getting pretty close said while laughing "this is kinda like a bad idea and a good idea at the same time" and I thought this was actually a nice description of skateboarding overall. All your better senses would tell you standing on a rolling plank is not the best idea, but overcoming this fear and controlling the dynamic forces as it propels you forward is exhilirating and brings you straight into the moment where movements are performed in fractions of a second. Well said kid! Sunday classes! All classes are on for today! 9:30am Rise and Grind; 11am Groms; 12:30pm Shredders and 4pm Sterling Street. Check the website (www.skateyogi.com) for more details and to register for the ramp classes since those can fill up sometimes. Breath and Beats Ramp Jam! I'm a last minute person just as everyone else but wanted to let you know spaces are starting to fill up. Here's a quick pitch: Plenty of fun in store, even if you're not super into yoga and/or skateboarding there's a live DJ, food and adult beverages (yup, it's a 21+ event, perfect date night!). There's still space left but if you definitely wanna spot sign up sooner than later! Click here to bring you straight to the event sign up page. Video of the Week So, I'm partial to east coast street skating but in summer camp I've branched out in the snack break video selection. Kids were stoked on this mega ramp video, Dreamland by Bob Burnquist. Namaskate!
