New Year, New Tricks
Hope you are staying warm in the cold weather! Our adult open skate sessions are getting heated up and kids classes keep everyone warm and cozy while skating hard in our indoor spaces! On a recent family trip to Japan I had the chance to visit several locally run small skate spaces that serve their communities similar to SKATEYOGI. It's always great to visit these places for inspiration and making new friends! Bring your board along on your next trip somewhere and you might find places like these too! -Kevin Kevin's Spot Check Series: Japan Part 1 OLDRICH COFFEE Skate Shop / Skatepark I heard about OLDRICH from a family friend and the raddest thing is that it's on the outskirts of my in-laws hometown Toyokawa where I was staying! They share a lot with an auto repair shop with some classic cars scattered adding some eclectic charm. There's a miniramp in the parking lot under a palm tree and a pristine small concrete skate park. The layout is very unique with a long curved, curb and ledge combo prominently featured with some other concrete transition elements. The cozy shop and cafe space is located on the lot in a modified shipping container. The sun filled shop space has skate products displayed nicely amongst plants and art. We met Tommy, one of the co-owners who was super welcoming and made the best coffee I had on my trip. He told us about events they host there and other local skate news. Can't wait to visit again next time!
