As the Black Lives Matter movement gains momentum, people of all types are taking to the streets to voice their support for systemic change to dismantle the racist injustice and inequity our fellow Black Americans have suffered for centuries. As individuals and as SKATEYOGI we have marched in solidarity with groups around Brooklyn; from a family march in Grand Army Plaza to a procession of over 5,000 with Educators for Justice from Downtown Brooklyn to Manhattan City Hall.
I've found the best source of information is posted at justiceforgeorgenyc on Instagram with daily events posted the night before with updates throughout the day in the story. There's something for everyone and every comfort level, from children's marches, to silent vigils and bike rides. We're starting to see some quick governmental changes in response, but to really affect lasting fundamental change, we need to keep this momentum up all the way to November and beyond! Speaking of something for everyone, the NYC Skate Coalition has spread the word on the first skater-led Black Lives Matter event today at 3pm (Friday 6/12) where we will be skating, biking and marching from the Williamsburg Monument to McCarren Park. Come on out to show your support to skate and destroy racism! Peace and love! Kevin
