We interrupt our program to bring you this important message... This Sunday the whole family is participating in the 5 boro bike tour so for this week only kids classes will be held on Saturday. Same times: 11-noon for Groms; 12:30-1:30pm for Shredders. Sorry adults, we'll have to cancel this week's class to make room for the kiddies. Thanks everyone for understanding!! New kids class! Rise & Grind! Starting next weekend for Sundays we're gonna kick off the day with a Rise and Grind class from 9:30-10:30am at Douglass Greene park (3rd Ave between Douglass and Degraw). This is an open-level kids class so everyone can come and shred first thing in the morning. There's some obstacles there to learn curb drops, grinds and slides in addition to getting more comfortable at pushing around with all that extra space! 10 Class Card! Also, by popular demand we're offering a 10 class card! Makes sign-in easier (especially for outdoor classes). Plus it includes a "season" pass to ride the ramp at Skate Brooklyn anytime during shop hours (usually $5/visit) that is good for 4 months from the first use. It's $180 so you basically get your 10th class free. Online purchase available here! The usual weather talk We're all singing in the rain... but not really... unless you got your rain cruiser. Hoping the afternoon's warmer temps dry up the concrete at LES for a quick sesh before heading over to peep the much anticipated premiere of Static 4 later on tonight, psyched! One upside to this week's sogginess was that yesterday at after school skate club I had a skate video screening in one of the classrooms. We watched Round Three, Rodney vs. Daewon and opinions were split. We then did a more timely match-up with Nyjah vs. Ishod, letting the kids guess who got Skater of the Year last year. My faith for the younger generation was reaffirmed as one of skaters sided with Thrasher Magazine and chose Ishod. "Nyjah skates a lot of the same stuff, it looks really hard, but Isod looks like he's having more fun and that's really what skateboarding is about." I couldn't have said it better myself! Best Trick Jam at LES on Saturday! The weather is looking nice for Saturday and what better plan for after skateyogi class than to go chill at the LES park and watch some of the city's finest battle it out in a best trick jam. There's already talk of a Skate Brooklyn cheering section for team rider Kempsey Alexandre. Team Kempsey! Rainy day extended clip of the week Here's another video the afterschool skate club loved. Powell Peralta's 1987 skate film The Search for Animal Chin. Nice introduction to old school skating with the Bones Brigade legends seshing a bunch of spots in between some pretty funny "acting" scenes. Kid friendly and over an hour long; perfect for a rainy day stuck indoors. Namaskate!
