Block party season is here! Hope the plants got enough to drink for a bit cause it's perfect skate weather out there this weekend! After a week of skateboards wrapped in bags to protect the sacred seven layers of maple and obsessively checking your phone's weather app to scope out the prospects of a skate sesh even if it's usually wrong anyways we are now knee deep in glorious weather and what seems like a skate contest every weekend at LES with King of Spring today and Go Skateboarding Day next weekend. Really stoked on the turnout at the Prospect Lefferts Gardens community youth event last weekend! SKATEYOGI hosted a free skate clinic and we had several waves of first time shredders surfing the playground asphalt. We found a mellow little hill to jam down and some of the kids even got the courage to stand up on the boards and cruise on down. A neighborhood girl was amazed, "I didn't ever think I could ride on a skateboard but it's really not too hard!" Skating's not for everyone but from the sound of her voice I don't think that will be her last time on a skateboard. Reserve your spots for tomorrow's ramp classes! No need to panic! There are still spots left for tomorrow's Groms and Shredders classes at Skate Brooklyn. Just click here to sign up and as long as the date is available there is still room. Ramp classes are $30 and limited to 6 students to make sure everyone gets plenty of attention. If you're an early bird come shred with us at the Rise and Grind class from 9:30-10:30am at Thomas Greene Playground located at the corner of Douglass and 3rd Ave. This class is more open structured and is $20/student, no need to register, just come on by! Shred with Dad! Tomorrow is Father's day and as a special treat we will welcome all the dads to join us on the boards for a portion of all the sessions. Might have to spend a few extra minutes with the warm up stretches in the beginning! Video of the week: Love Letters to Skateboarding Continuing with the Father's Day theme I'm happy to share this rad series that Veteran skater Jeff Grosso does called Love Letters to Skateboarding. Very cool view into skate history mostly told through first person interviews with plenty of Grosso's personal editorial peppered in as well. This episode features famous skateboarder father/son combos and what it's like to live that life! Have a sunny weekend everyone! Kevin
