Skateboarders are always looking for lines. Whether it's flowing through a skatepark or connecting tricks while cruising down the sidewalk, we are constantly in search of interesting ways to go from point A to point B. Last week in the afterschool skate club, we played with this idea and made some cool outdoor skate art inspired by a video clip of a Japanese skater dragging a piece of chalk behind himself. We had fun with the double entendre of "filming lines" and it was rad to see all the different ways the kids moved from our start to finish point :) On a grander scale, skateboarding as a lifestyle is all about the journey. It's about the friends you meet, the experiences you have, and things you learn about yourself in the process. One group of young skateboarders in Brooklyn that epitomize this is our friends, the Skaters and Thieves. Tomorrow evening at Skate Brooklyn we will be pre-screening a new documentary with them. The film tells the story about how they are creating a culture for themselves through their passion in art, music, photography and skateboarding. It's a raw and inspiring story showing the energy they bring to their individual pursuits paralleled in their common interest in skateboarding.
