heyyyy, Have you peeped the forecast?? Just as I was writing off street skating in 2013 looks like mother nature is gonna hook up some warm vibes for us this weekend. Friday and Saturday will be prime with Sunday lookin even warmer but maybe a bit soggy, get there while you can! But even if you're planning a street mission what better place to sesh pre-brunch than the SKATEYOGI adult beginner class at Skate Brooklyn. 11am, 78 St. Marks Place between 4th and 5th ave. 20 bucks for the hour and we got the ramp to ourselves! Come and learn how to pump the ramp, it's like a sun salutation on your skateboard. Last weekend was poppin! Friday night we partied hard celebrating Urban Asanas' one-year anniversary at Kat Flower Studio. Several skateyogis were in attendance and unless it was just the drinks talking a few more yogis are down to join us and shred! Saturday was a full day at Skate Brooklyn with a few students braving the snow to rip the mini, some even stuck around the area and came back for the Girl Riders Org ladies only skate sesh. The women held down the ramp from 4-7pm with the first half for beginners keeping it below the coping, and the second half was a hype one-at-a-time dropping in ramp jam and they were killing it! Sunday morning I had my first kid's class at Skate Brooklyn and the kids were stoked! If you have or know any little ones that want to shred, it's the perfect cure for cabin fever in the winter months. oh yeah, btw, skateyogi is getting so legit right now... what? website! what? insta! what? twitter! what? facebook!? (soon!). So, no need to dig through all that gmail spam to scope the video link I sent you last week cause when you originally opened it you got a couple bars then ducked back into the subway tunnels... nope! Now you got an easy spot to go back and look at all the skateyogi reports in one place, and the URL? yup: skateyogi.com that's right. class info, blog, and other chill stuff in development, it's v 1.0 right now but i'm stoked on it. spread the love!! namaskate! After about a week and a half of back to back skate video premieres the NYC skate event scene is lookin pretty mellow for this weekend. If you're in the Greenpoint area Friday night, there is this skate zine related gallery show that is luring people out with "mucho free beer" probably not a bad pit stop, pre-dadlife I probably woulda made it out there but now trips up to North Brooklyn are few and far between. Last but not least, the clip of the week selection. And amongst recently released skate clips this one has sparked the most buzz. This Japanese skater Gou Miyagi is super creative and it's so refreshing to watch a video part where you cant guess what is gonna happen next just by looking at the skater's feet. Some people are gonna hate on this cause it's unconventional but for the most part people are down because besides the wackiness the dude rips. Combined with the music and editing, this is one with high rewatchability. enjoy!
