Hello! Across the city last weekend signs of the slow thaw started with piles of street debris revealed as snow melt slowly dripped into sewer grates; the city version of the seasonal high tide retreating. Got some actual skateboarding as a transportation method in as sidewalks were mostly dry. With a long winter of smooth miniramps almost forgot how much variation there is in terrain simply rolling on the sidewalks with the cracks, grates, curbs and different vintages of sidewalk aggregate. This week it seems the winter is making one last rally but it shouldn't be long now... New Shredders kids class! Good times at the Skate Brooklyn spring training camp last weekend! Such a great turnout at the kids class on Sunday we've decided to add another class. So now we've got Groms from 11am to noon and Shredders from 12:30-1:30pm. Groms will be the same class as always where we focus on basics like stance and pumping, skate etiquette and of course having fun with friends. Any kid is welcome even if they've never been on a skateboard. The Shredders class is for kids that are pretty comfortable on their boards and the ramp and are ready to start learning some basic tricks. With the arctic conditions outside private lessons are limited to the ramp and the only sure slot is Saturdays from 12:30-1:30. This week is reserved already but next week is still available. Hit me up at [email protected] if you have any questions about classes or private lessons. Ramp jams! For the short term it's all about the ramp jams! Saw through instagram that this wednesday's GRO girls only sesh at Homage was a big hit. Come check out part 2 next month. There's a ramp jam, music show, art thing tomorrow at Skate Brooklyn with an girls only sesh from 8-9pm if your in the central Brooklyn area. And then the House of Vans on Wednesdays as usual (maybe I'll actually make it to one?). Then, heard that KCDC is doing an encore Skate Night at the LES location so if you slept on that you got one last chance! Clip of the week As a teaser, or reminder, of what it'll be like once we're out in the warm streets check the latest part by Jimmy Cao posted up to the Thrasher site. Dude's tricks are so clean and incredible but it's still has a makes-you-wanna-go-skate vibe with some wallrides thrown in there for good measure. See you out there! Kevin
