I've been seeing clips of this new skatepark in Queens for a little while now since people have been hopping the fence while it was still under construction. The main draw is the promise of the rare medium sized bowl in a NYC skatepark. Not the birdbath of a bowl at Golconda, or the enormous bowls of Chelsea or Riverside.
I finally went to check it out and was generally impressed. Sure, the shape is a little unusual and the deep end somehow seems less steep than the shallow end, but I'm sure after repeat visits you'll get the hang of it. Plus, the park has two other pretty distinct sections for a variety of skating. In the middle is a street area reminiscent of Owl's Head since you basically roll in and fly around. In the back there is a kiddie pool section that looks like it's out of Alice in Wonderland like you just drank the size-up potion. Some really fun quick feet combos in there. It's also a nice little spot for the actual kiddos to skate around while the big kids jump down the 4-block or handrails. Only downside is there's no subway stop nearby so you'll either drive, bike or connect to the bus stop nearby. Enjoy!
